It is very important to know about the basic functions of a car before getting to know how to drive a car. Moreover, it also constitutes a part of the driving test as well. It is called as Pre-Driving check. Before starting your driving test, they are going to ask you about some of the basic functions of car. If you don’t know about these basic functions and are unable to answer at that time, then it may lead to your failure in the driving test straightaway at the this stage. You won’t be taken for road test after failing in pre-driving test.

Seatbelt

Indicators
You should know about the left and right indicators to change lanes or take turns whenever needed. Generally, pushing the indicator button down turns on the left indicator while pushing it upwards from the neutral position turns on the right one.

Car lights
You need to know about the car lights properly for night driving. You should keep the car head lights on while driving at night so that you can see the road clearly as well as others are also able to see you. Rotating the indicator button to different extent turn on the car lights differently. High beam light should be used only when there is no light as in countryside. You should avoid using it while normal driving as you can be charged with a heavy fine for doing so. Make sure that you always drive in full beam at night. Full beam corresponds to turning on the head lights. You need to be well versed with these terms before appearing for your test.

Wipers
You should know how to start and stop the wipers. Usually, pulling the side button with wiper symbol provided on the side of the car steering turns the wiper on and off.

Demisters
There are two demister buttons provided in the car: front and back. The function of a demister is to clear the fog and condensation from front, side windows and rear glass. This is quite useful in situations when there is pollution outside the vehicle or especially in winters, when the car heater is on. Demister is also known as defogger or defroster sometimes. These buttons are provided in the main air conditioning controls.

Hazard light is the emergency light. In case of an emergency, you need to keep on the hazard light of your vehicle which can probably help you in getting some assistance.

Hand brake
Whenever you need to park your vehicle, you should keep the hand brake up so that your vehicle doesn’t move. When you need to drive your vehicle, you need to put the hand brake down by pressing a small button on it.

Steering control
The best position to place your hands to control the steering is the same as the position of clock hands when the time is 9:15 am or 3:45 pm. You will have a full control over the car in this position whether you want to drive straight or turn around.
9. Brake and accelerator
You should know how to place your feet properly while driving a car so that you can use brake and accelerator without any hassle. Brake and accelerator are very sensitive and need to be pressed very gently. For automatic cars, you can drive using one foot.
